Abstract

1323933 Gas liquefaction apparatus COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE D'ETUDES ET DE CONSTRUCTION TECHNIP 20 Aug 1970 [12 Feb 1970] 40196/70 Addition to 1122860 Heading F4P A gas mixture e.g. natural gas liquefaction apparatus comprising two series of vertically arranged heat exchangers 9, 13 and 21, 22 traversed by feed gas which latter is cooled to liquefaction temperature prior to discharge through a valve 23 by heat exchange with a reverse flowing multi-component refrigerant liquid undergoing vaporization; the two coldest exchangers 21, 22 being cooled by downwardly flowing refrigerant issuing from injector heads 19, 20 whilst the exchangers 9, 13 are cooled by upwardly discharged refrigerant issuing from heads 6, 12 said liquid refrigerant being derived from separators 3, 10, 16 at decreasing temperature, and the so-vaporized refrigerant being returned to the intake of a compressor 1 thus forming a closed circuit. Gaseous refrigerant delivered by compressor 1 is partially condensed at 2 and separated at 3. Liquid withdrawn at 3 is in part expanded at a head and the remainder is expanded at a valve 84 and traverses the shell side of an exchanger 4 which serves to condense the less volatile gas withdrawn from 3. Condensate is separated at 10 and the liquid used in expansion head 12 and also in valve 15 and exchanger 11 to condense a portion of gas withdrawn from 10. Condensate from a further separator 16 is expanded in head 19 and gas withdrawn from 16 is wholly condensed at 17 and is then expanded at head 20.
