Abstract
1317657 Gas liquefaction process; refrigerating COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE D'ETUDES & DE CONSTRUCTION TECHNIP 30 June 1970 [8 Jan 1970] 31717/70 Headings F4H and F4P In a gas, e.g. natural gas, liquefaction process wherein feed gas is discharged by a compressor 13 through heat exchange coils 12, 20, 27 where it is cooled to liquefaction temperature by indirect heat exchange with a portion of successive liquid fractions of a multicomponent refrigerant having been withdrawn from separators 6, 14, 21 and expanded through injector heads 11, 19, 26, and wherein further cooling of the feed is effected in a coil 30 by indirect heat exchange with the most volatile component of the refrigerant, e.g., nitrogen having been withdrawn from the gas space of separator 21, liquefied at 25 in heat exchange with the remainder of the liquid from 21, after expansion at 24 and expanded through an injector head 29, the temperature of the liquid product is controlled by (a) a flow regulating valve 32 in the refrigerant line upstream of expansion head 24, (b) a flow regulating valve 33 upstream of expansion head 29 and (c) a flow regulating valve 34 in a make-up line for admitting a mixture of the two most volatile components of the refrigerant; said valves 32, 33, 34 being univocally responsive to at least two condition parameters of the coldest refrigerant, e.g. temperature and pressure. As shown, flow valve 33 is responsive to pressure within separator 21 as measured by a gauge 35, valve 32 is responsive to the temperature indicated by 36 of the coldest refrigerant prior to expansion at 29 and make-up valve 34 is responsive to temperature indicated at 37 of refrigerant after expansion at 29. A further measurement of pressure of expanded refrigerant taken by gauge 38 serves to control the speed of refrigerant compressor 3. In a modification valve 32 is controlled by temperature probe 37, valve 33 by 36, valve 34 by pressure gauge 35 and compressor speed by gauge 38. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,122,860.
