Abstract
1323522 Water heating systems ELECTRICITY COUNCIL 28 Jan 1972 [24 Feb 1971] 5331/71 Headings F4A and F4U A water heating system comprises a thermal storage core with one or more open ended U- tubes 12 extending into the core and means for feeding water into the upper end of one arm only of the or each tube to be evaporated to provide steam to transfer heat from the core to a heat exchanger (not shown). The water enters the open upper end of a lower arm of the U-tubes or an aperture 15 from a surrounding reservoir 14 and a steam cap 13 is provided around the open ends of the tubes so that steam pressure in the cap, as water evaporates, forces water from the bottom of the cap into the reservoir until the water level in the cap is below the water entry to the tubes. The core is electrically heated and the tubes may be located in or between the blocks of core material. The heat exchanger may be formed of tubes helically wound around each cap and may be used to heat water for central heating or domestic hot water.
