Abstract

1322583 Furniture frames & joints; cabinets; drawers; desks. H HEFENDEHL 5 Oct 1970 [6 Nov 1969] 47208/70 Headings A4B, A4H Box furniture comprises at least one rectangular box member having one or a pair of opposed open sides, the box member comprising panels 10-14 inter-connected at adjoining edges, and a frame 15 defining the periphery of the or each open side, the panel edges adjacent the open side being secured within the frame. Each panel such as 131 is formed from two walls 13a, 13b, glued together at their edges, the hollow interior of the panel including ribs 13c, and further ribs perpendicular to and intersecting ribs 13c. The edges of the panels adjacent frame 15 have ribs 13d glued into the frame 15. Panel 13 has a rib 13e, 13f received in a groove in panel 14, and panel 14 has a rib 14a glued in a groove 13g in panel 13. The edges of panels 10-13 are also inter-connected by ribs in grooves Fig. 2 (not shown). A plurality of boxes may be stacked one on to the other, a shoulder 14e on the rear panel 14 being received within a step provided between frame 15 and panels 10-13. The panels may include openings 8 at the intersections of the perpendicular ribs 13c for the reception of plastics or metal bolts and nuts to inter-connect box members. The panel edges may be connected to the frame and the rear panel by inter-locking saw-tooth sections Fig. 4 (not shown). The rear panel may comprise a single wall with a peripheral groove Fig.4a (not shown). The box member may comprise a drawer support Fig. 5 (not shown), opposed inner walls (30a, 31a) comprising alternating grooves and lands, the former receiving drawer guide bars. The openings in the panels may be formed by concentric telescopic tubular members (30c, 30f), Fig. 5 (not shown) integral with the walls (30b, 30e) of the panels (30), the openings including interior counter bores (30d). The panels comprise plastics, and the hollow interior may be filled with foam. The frame 15 may be of metal and it may have a unitary or multi-part construction. Box members may be inter-connected to provide pedestal desks Fig. 6 (not shown) a room divider comprised of cabinets with a walk-through passage Fig. 7 (not shown), or a wardrobe.
