Abstract

1321933 Cartons METAL BOX CO Ltd 8 June 1972 [1 July 1971] 30924/71 Heading B8P One end of a cardboard carton has an access opening 7 closed by a rupturable diaphragm 8 and is covered by a lid 9. The diaphragm 8 may be part of a liner (10) for the carton. The lid 9 may be separate from the carton, may be integral with a side 3 of the carton, or may, as shown, be attached to a flap 11 integral with the side 3 of the carton. The flap 11 may be substantially coextensive with the top 20 of the lid and may be releasably secured to the top 5 of the carton. At least one locking tab 17 extends from a side of the carton to engage the interior of the lid 9 and retain it in its closed position. The carton is filled through one side 2 which comprises flaps 13, 14, 15, 16 hinged to the sides 3, 4 and the ends 5, 6. In a modification, the bottom (24) of a dish-shaped sealing member (23) is adhered to the top 20 of the lid, a peripheral rim (25) of the sealing member surrounding the access opening 7 and sealingly engaging the end 5 of the carton in the closed position of the lid.
