Abstract

1321666 Fuel injection pumps L'ORANGE EINSPRINZGERAETE K G 29 July 1970 36629/70 Heading F1A In a fuel injection pump having a rotatable pumping piston 12 reciprocable by the co-operation, during rotation, between a cam track 9 fixed to the piston and rollers 10 in a non-rotatable ring 11, the ring 11 is axially moveable by fuel fed to a chamber 16 thereby to adjust the timing of injection. Liquid fuel is fed to the chamber 16 by a gear pump 4, 5, each time one of a plurality of grooves 19 in a shaft 6 driving the piston 12 connects the chamber 16 to the gear pump's outlet passage 17, 18. This connection occurs each time the piston is being returned by a spring 13. Hence during the pumping strokes fuel is trapped in the chamber 16. The gear pump is driven at pump speed by the shaft 6 and also feeds fuel to the pump inlet.
