Abstract

1321166 Inductors and transformers ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 22 Nov 1971 [23 Nov 1970] 54097/71 Heading HIT Insulation for layer windings is formed from a tape 3 which has a width greater than the dimension of the conductor 4 in a direction parallel to the coil axis and is wound on the coil former with a pitch greater than that of the conductor winding and at the same time as the conductor. For the greater part of the winding, the insulating tape is wound in advance of the conductor. The conductor itself is insulated either with paper or varnish. During winding of the coil the winding pitch of the insulating tape is adjusted to be effectively zero at the ends of the coil former thus causing the insulation to be wound over itself forming a shoulder 6 which acts as an edge support for the conductor layers. The insulating tape is coated with transverse strips of adhesive 5, which when cured, attach the insulating turns and layers to each other and to the conductor. The winding pitch of the tape in between the edge supports is arranged to give a maximum thickness of insulation at parts of the coil where there is a maximum potential difference between adjacent conductor layers. In a further embodiment of the invention the edge supports are formed from a separate thinner tape. If the conductor is in the form of a flat tape the edge supports can be omitted altogether.
