Abstract

1320317 Thermal regenerators SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER AB 2 July 1970 [8 July 1969] 34288/69 Heading F4K In a thermal regenerator comprising a matrix unit and a duct unit one of which units is stationary whilst the other rotates on trunnions mounted in bearings at the ends of the unit, the rotary unit is driven at low speed, e.g. less than 5 r.p.m., by a motor having a rotatable member coupled to one of the trunnions, and a stationary member connected to a stationary part (e.g. the housing) of the bearing. As shown, for a regenerator having a rotary matrix 10 and a stationary duct structure 14, 16 for air and 18, 20 for a heating gas, a trunnion 22 projecting from the rotor is mounted in a bearing 24 to the stationary housing of which is connected by a shell structure 46, the inner stationary member 42 of a low-speed hightorque hydraulic motor 38. The trunnion 22 extends beyond the bearing 24 and is there connected to the rotatable outer casing part 40 of the motor. Deflections of the trunnions due to the weight of the rotor are accommodated by the shell structure 46 which is thin-walled and somewhat flexible. 34 are sector plates separating the air and gas ducts from each other. Hydraulic fluid passes to and from the motor via conduits 54.
