Abstract

1303695 Thermal regenerators SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER AB 3 Sept 1971 [8 Sept 1970] 42933/70 Heading F4K In a rotary regenerative heat exchanger having a cylindrical rotor 10 containing a regenerative mass movable within a stationary housing 18 having ducts 20, 22, 24, 26 for the passage of air to be heated and hot flue gases, sealing plates 40 each consisting of two outer plate elements 40B hingedly connected to opposite edges of a central plate element 40A are provided between housing U-section support. beams 28, 30 and the end faces of the rotor to prevent intermingling of the gas and air flows. The rotor 10 is carried by a bearing 32 receiving the lower trunnion 12A of the rotor post 12, and the upper trunnion 12B of the rotor post 12 is guided by a radial bearing assembly 38 movably connected to the upper beam 28. When the rotor post 12 expands and contracts thermally the bearing 38 moves vertically, this movement being guided by a fork structure 60 carried by a shaft 62 which is pivotally journalled in transverse walls 64 extending between the flanges of the beam 28. The central plate element 40A is connected to the bearing assembly 38 through a link and shaft stabilizing arrangement whereby the central plate 40A is suspended such that it moves vertically in unison with the bearing assembly 38. The central plate element 40A is suspended from arms 78 through vertically extending pins 80 of adjustable length, and its weight is transferred through shafts 74, arms 72, and turnbuckles 70 to the bearing housing 46. The sealing plate 40 at the lower end sueface of the rotor also comprises a central plate 40A and outer plate elements 40B; however in this case the central plate element 40A is not axially movable but is secured to the lower beam 30 in the desired position relative to the lower end surface of the rotor by means of adjustable bolt devices 82. Each outer plate element 40B at the lower end of the rotor is connected to the corresponding outer plate element at the upper end via links 92. The rotor includes radical partitions (100, Fig. 7) which subdivide it into open ended compartments containing heat exchanging packages 16. The partitions (100) are provided with sealing strips (102) which cooperate with the sealing plates 40 in known manner.
