Abstract

1,057,927. Thermal regenerators. SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER A.B. Aug. 20, 1963 [Aug. 20, 1962], No. 32856/63. Heading F4K. In a thermal regenerator in which rotating fluid ducts 5a, 5b sweep over the end faces of a stationary regenerative mass, the ducts are interconnected by a tube 4 which rotates with the ducts and is carried by bearings 17a, 17b on a coaxial stationary support tube 1 extending through the tube 4. The ducts and connecting tube 4 may be driven through a rack 14 on the lower duct member 5b or by a gear mounted on the tube 4 near the level of the bearing 17a. To reduce heat flow from the mass to the tube 4 and to the bearings, relatively cool fluid leaking through the seals of duct element 5b is drawn by a fan 20 through the space between the tube 4 and a stator tube 7 in the mass, this fluid being alternately discharged into the duct 5a. The bearing 17a may be liquid-cooled. The support tube 1 may be made in separate parts for easier access to the bearings.
