Abstract

1319365 Roller press for wet material SOC SUCRIERE DE L'ATLANTIQUE (ENG) 1 Dec 1970 [5 Dec 1969] 57085/70 Heading B1D [Also in Division C6] Wet bagasse is dried by feeding it through the gap between a larger diameter, perforated, hollow cylinder 1 and a smaller diameter imperforate pressing cylinder 2, mounted above and to one side of cylinder 1 and urged towards cylinder 1. The cylinders are rotated in opposite direction by separate motors, and both are provided with external projections which carry the bagasse from hopper 9 through the gap. The cylinders may be horizontal or slightly inclined to assist the extracted liquid to flow to one end of cylinder 1. Cylinder 1 may be provided with an internal zone 26 and axial partitions 25 to convey the liquid to a discharge spout (8) (Fig. 2, not shown the cone and partitions rotating with the cylinder. Alternatively, the fixed shaft 13 supporting cylinder 1 may carry inclined diametral baffle 27, whose upper surface conveys expressed liquid from the pressing zone between cylinders 1, 2 across cylinder 1 to location N, where it flows outwards through the perforated cylinder wall to an external gutter. Conveyor 11 receives the pressed fibres. As shown, the ends of shaft 12 of cylinder 2 are journalled in sliders 19 movable along tracks 20 and urged to the right by cables 22 supporting weights 21. Alternatively cylinder 2 may be loaded by jacks or springs.
