Abstract

Liquid squeezed out by rolls o, u, Fig. 1, is discharged over a movably supported plate a extending to or nearly to the nip p and bearing in a fluid tight manner on the lower roller u, thus allowing the liquid to flow away quickly by avoiding the effect of the roll surface moving towards the nip p. The blade a<1>, Fig. 4, may <PICT:0393835/IV/1> <PICT:0393835/IV/2> be of rubber, metal foil, &c. and weight or spring pressed against the roll u and may be clamped by a strip e &c. to a rotatable sleeve f. The blade a<1> and strip e may be in sections and if caught in the nip p, the blade is torn or pulled from its holder without injuring the rolls. Replacement of parts of the blade may be facilitated by a wire &c. passing through parts c. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the application of the invention to expressing rollers for wet webs in the textile and chemical industries. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
