Abstract

1317252 Ventilators SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 May 1970 [10 Feb 1969] 22517/70 Divided out of 1317251 Heading F4V A ventilating nozzle for supplying air to a motor vehicle, ship or aircraft comprises two axially interfitting members 1, 2 defining an annular body having an outer surface in the shape of a zone of a sphere, trunnions 5 on member 2 which are received in slots in a complementarily shaped tubular housing to permit universal swivelling of the nozzle body but to prevent rotation of member 2 about its longitudinal axis, and a shutter or shutters mounted in the member 2 and controlled by rotation of the member 1 about its longitudinal axis. The nozzle may be moulded in a synthetics plastics material e.g. polypropylene. The member 2 includes (a) two or more pivotally mounted sector shaped shutters which may each be flat or bent, or (b) one or more sector shaped plates bent in the form of a fan or (c) and iris shutter.
