Abstract

1317251 Motor vehicle ventilating nozzle SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 May 1970 [10 Feb 1969] 7049/69 Heading F4V A ventilating nozzle supplying fresh or heated air to a motor vehicle, ship or aircraft, comprises an annular nozzle member 2 in the form of a zone of a hollow sphere, at least two lune shaped shutters 12 pivotally mounted within the nozzle member 2 about a diametric axis and a ring 5 mounted on the outer surface of the member 2, the ring 5 and outer surface of each shutter 12 respectively having follower pins 7 and blind slots 15 or vice versa. The nozzle member 2 is received in a complementarily shaped tubular housing. In the form shown, the ring 5 has stub shafts 8 which are received in slots in the inner surface of the housing to permit universal swivelling of the nozzle member 2 and to prevent rotation of the ring 5, whereby rotation of the member 2 about its longitudinal axis produces opening or closing movement of the shutters 12. The member 2 includes recesses or slots 6 to accommodate the pins 7. In another embodiment the shafts 8 are provided on the member 2 and the ring 5 is rotatable to open or shut the shutters 12, which may be spring biased to their closed positions. The housing includes a removable bezel to permit insertion and removal of the member 2. Specification 1,317,252 is referred to.
