Abstract
1314883 W-coated X-ray target MULLARD Ltd 19 April 1971 [28 May 1970] 25788/70 Heading C7F A rotary target electrode for an X-ray tube said electrode comprising a W-coated disc-shaped substrate, is produced by disposing W at a temperature above 1900‹ C. but below its melting-point in the vicinity of said substrate, which is at a temperature between 500‹ C. and that of the W, and supplying between the W and substrate an atmosphere containing hydrogen and water vapour and/or oxygen, whereby W is transported to the substrate. The substrate may be of W, Mo, WMo or an alloy based on W or Mo, or of C coated with W or Ta, its temperature is preferably 500-1400‹ C. 9 the partial pressure ratio H 2 O:H 2 may be 0À1 to 1, the atmosphere may also contain N 2 or inert gas, the coating is 100Á or thicker, and parts of the substrate which are not to be coated may be masked.
