The substrate may be of W, Mo, WMo or an alloy based on W or Mo, or of C coated with W or Ta, its temperature is preferably 500-1400‹ C. 9 the partial pressure ratio H 2 O:H 2 may be 0À1 to 1, the atmosphere may also contain N 2 or inert gas, the coating is 100Á or thicker, and parts of the substrate which are not to be coated may be masked.
