Abstract

1,218,079. Graphite. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE RADIOLOGIE. 28 March, 1968 [28 March, 1967], No. 15029/68. Heading C1A. [Also in Division H1] The rotating anode of an X-ray tube comprises a dense fine-grain refractory graphite structure with an X-ray emissive band of refractory material, e.g. W or Re or their alloys, formed thereon. The graphite body, which is formed by compressing and heating fine graphite grains almost to sintering such that individual grains merge or weld, i.e. "pseudovitrifying", has a high density, an expansion coefficient similar to that of the refractory metal band, a specific gravity of 1À85 gm./cm.<SP>3</SP>, low porosity and high purity. The W or Re layer may be applied electrolytically or pyrolytically. The width of the band of emissive material is preferably equal to width of the focal spot of the impinging electrons.
