CATINI EDISON SpA and G DE VARDA 26 June 1970 [30 June 1969] 31216/70 Heading H5H A muiticell electrolytic furnace for the production of aluminium has a plurality of bipolar electrodes 5 suspended in the furnace with their active surfaces at an acute angle of more than 45 degrees to the vertical. The active surface 8<SP>1</SP> of terminal anode 8 and the active surface 9<SP>1</SP> of terminal cathode 9 are also inclined at the above angle. The furnace floor has steps 1 leading down to a central collecting pit for Al, 4. The bath 6 is an alumina/cryolite bath with additives of titanium trifluoride and calcium and magnesium compounds.
