Abstract
1454869 Electrolytic cells COMALCO Ltd 19 Dec 1974 [20 Dec 1973] 54861/74 Heading C7B An electrolytic cell, e.g. of the Hall type for Al production, has a plurality of equal-sized rectangular anodes 16 depending downwardly into a rectangular cathode cavity 10, in two rows parallel to the long side of the cavity. The majority of the anodes have their short side parallel to the long side of the cavity while the remainder are conversely arranged whereby one or more spaces 18 are formed at selected locations for feeding e.g. alumina and tapping the product. The total anode area is at least 85% of the cavity cross-section. Prebaked or Soderberg anodes may be used.
