Abstract

The electrode consists of a composition or is coated therewith, which contains at least 50% by weight of an oxide having a spinel structure of the formula XYY'O4 and/or an oxide having a perovskite structure of the formula RMO3. X, Y, Y', R and M have the meaning specified in Claim 1. Said oxides have excellent electronic conductivity at from 900 to 1000 DEG C and are resistant to the melt of the aluminium electrolytic cells. The electrodes are non-consumable and can be used as the anode or the cathode.
