Abstract

Tread bands. projections, and surfaces; jackets and covers; tyre attachments to rims.- A pneumatic tyre cover for heavy vehicles adapted for use with treads such as are described in the parent Specification comprises one or two fabric layers f, f<1> formed of transverse threads only, as by winding in the manner described in Specification 6585/11, with or without a liner f<2> of cotton stockinette or like material. The tyre shown has two air-tubes o, p, the latter having an inextensible sleeve q, as described in Specification 6585/11. The attaching-devices comprise a transversely-split baseband b (with a fabric facing c) adapted to fit an ordinary wheel rim a. Similarly-divided steel bands j are fitted in pockets h in the edges of the cover, and a wide band k, having rubber edges n and faced with fabric l, is arranged inside the cover as shown. The bands b, k carry rings d, m respectively which fit between fit between the tyre edges. In use, the tyre edges are secured to the bands b, k by raw-rubber solution, the band b being then fitted over the wheel rim in the manner of an ordinary band tyre. The tyre is secured by inflation, but for additional security, screws may be passed through the band b into the rim a. Rubber fillets r are fitted to the sides of the cover, the tread proper comprising rubber bands or blocks v on circumferentially-inextensible wire bases u. Strips t<1> - - - t<9> of wire gauze, proofed holland or other bias fabric, or isolated thread fabric cut transversely, are fitted under the bands u and folded up the sides, or embedded in the tread rings or blocks. A fabric band s, formed of transverse threads, is disposed between the tread and the cover. The valve preferably passes between the ends of band k, and may be fitted with a plate carrying studs to enter holes near the ends of the band. Non-metallic elastic bodies.-Fig. 2 shows a solid tyre having wire-gauze strips t<10>, t", t<12> fitted under thin metal bands w embedded near the tyre base. Such tyres mav be made of more elastic material than ordinary band tyres.
