Abstract
1312242 Sliding window units FULLEX (WINDOWCRAFT) Ltd 26 March 1970 [18 March 1969] 14256/69 Heading E1J A window unit assembly, particularly suitable for use in conjunction with an existing window to form a double window, comprises two (as shown) or more sliding sashes 21, 22 supported simultaneously, in the closed condition of the unit, in a first track 14, 16 formed in the head and sill rails 11, 12 of a main frame with all the margins of the sashes in weatherproof sealing engagement with the main frame or with one another, the main frame having a second parallel track 15, 17 and there being gaps as 38a, b, c in the walls 40, 42 separating the parallel tracks to allow transfer between the tracks of guide runners as 39a, b, c on both the top and bottom of the sashes, both the head and sill rails being provided with deflectors 34 to facilitate transfer from the second track 15, 17 to the first track 14, 16 in the closing movement of the sash. Preferably a reverse deflector 37 is provided to guide the runners from the first track to the second track in the opening movement of the sash. Auxiliary deflectors 35, 40a may be provided to assist the closing movement and an additional reverse deflector 36 may be provided for the opening movement. The main frame may be formed of aluminium alloy T-section members, the jambs 13 being attached to the head and sill rails 11, 12 by self tapping screws 20a; and may support pile sealing strips 19, a similar sealing strip being carried by the overlapping stile portion 33 (Fig. 2 not shown) of sash 22. The runners 39 may be shoes or rollers of nylon or acetal resin. The frames of the sliding sashes also may be formed of aluminium alloy channelsection members connected by self-tapping screws and the outermost stiles carry buffer strips 49. Rotary cam locking means may be provided between the sashes or between the sashes and main frame to ensure sealing. The sashes are removable from the main frame due to the head room provided in the tracks 14, 15 in the head rail 11.
