Abstract

131,143. Gilderthorp, S. Aug. 14, 1918. Spray carburettors.- A disk-like air valve l which may be moved by suction or positively in a ported barrel r actuates a fuel valve d either separate from or formed integral with the air valve. The barrel r is wider at the upper than at the lower portion to prevent binding of the valve. The fuel valve is tapered or provided with flats or flutings, and may have a head f to effect closure of the fuel passage, which head may be forced to its seat by a spring v. To vary the proportion of air to fuel, the nozzle is adjusted axially by a right and left handed screw and a nut g provided with a pointer k. Air enters through gauze-covered openings t and passes around the edge of the valve into the annular space s, and then through the ports r above the valve to mix with the fuel. The valve may have a ported cylindrical upward extension acting as a variable choke tube, and the central portion of the valve may be formed with spiral or like vanes to redirect the fuel back into the air current. The movements of the air valve are limited in one or both directions by an arm engaging nuts on the spindle thereof, and are damped by washers o in a cylinder p.
