Abstract

1310221 Boots &c CLARKS Ltd 15 July 1970 [16 July 1969] 35942/69 Heading A3B A machine for trimming the entire periphery of a sole edge 11 has a last supporting assembly which includes a support 27 rotatably mounted on the machine frame, a last supporting platform 13 which is carried by a slide 25 which can move lengthwise of the last 12 in the rotary support 27, first locking means for locking the slide 25 in either of its end positions and second locking means for locking the support 27 against rotary movement. The support 27 is carried by a shaft 41 mounted in bearings in a frame member 46 and can be locked in position by a locking bolt 65 operated by air motor 68 entering any one of four holes 64 equally spaced round the bottom of the support. The shaft 41 and support 27 can be rotated through 90‹ by a first air motor (not shown) which acts via rack 49 and pinion 51, one way clutch 53 and gears 54, 55 and can be rotated through 180‹ by a second air motor (not shown) which acts via rack 50 and pinion 56, one way clutch 58 and gears 59, 55. The slide 25 can be moved along guide 26 in the support 27 by an air motor 35 mounted on the machine frame and can be locked in either of its end positions by a locking bolt 39 operated by air motor 42 entering holes 38 at each end of the slide. The lasted shoe 10 rests on a platform 13 which is pivoted at 24 to the slide 25. As the slide 25 is moved lengthwise a roller 32 on the support 27 coacts with cam surfaces 33 on the platform 13 to tilt the platform 13 so that the toe section 13a becomes parallel to the support 27. The shoe 10 is clamped on the platform 13 by a toe pad 16 and last pin 15 which are mounted on a bar 14, the bar 14 being forced downwardly by a roller 17 mounted on the piston rod 3 of air motor 19. The trimming cutter 70 is carried on an arm (not shown) and is urged into contact with the edge of the sole 11 by an air motor (not shown), and includes a guide (not shown) which engages the crease between the upper and the sole. In use a lasted shoe 10 is place on the platform 13 with its heel end over the support 27 as shown, the clamp 14, 15, 16 is placed on the shoe, and the roller 17 is lowered to clamp the shoe. The support is rotated through 90‹ and the cutter 70 is brought into contact with one side of the heel. The support 27 is then rotated through 180‹ so that the cutter 70 trims around the heel. The support 27 is then locked by bolt 65, the slide 25 is unlocked and air motor 35 moves the slide 25 so that the cutter trims one side of shoe. The slide 25 is then locked and support 27 is unlocked and rotated through 180‹ so that the cutter 70 trims around the toe. Support 27 is then locked and slide 25 is unlocked and again moved by air motor 35 to trim the other side of the shoe. The cycle is then repeated and the support 27 is rotated through a further 180‹ to complete the trimming operation in which the heel has been trimmed three times and the remainder of the sole twice.
