Abstract

1310058 Phosphatizing F M C CORP 11 Dec 1970 [15 Dec 1969] 58838/70 Heading C7U A composition for use in the phosphatisation of metals comprises zinc and phosphate ions in aqueous acid solution, and 1 to 50 grams per litre of peroxyphosphate ions. The latter may be peroxydiphosphate (P 2 O 8 <SP>4-</SP>) or peroxymonophosphate (HPO 5 <SP>2-</SP>), and may be supplied as the K, Zn, Na, Li, NH 4 , or Mg salt. The composition may comprise Zn(H 2 PO 4 ) 2 and free phosphoric acid. The metal (such as steel or galvanised steel) is treated by immersion or spraying at hot (70-90‹ C.), ambient, or cold temperatures.
