1309437 Reciprocating pumps or motors REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT and AUTOM0BILES PEUGEOT 3 June 1970 [11 July 1969] 26898/70 Heading F1A In a rotary cylinder block pump or motor with the block engaging a parted valve plate 2 forming a hydrodynamic bearing, the diameter d3 of the circle containing the centres of the cylinder ports 10 and valve ports 14, 15 is greater than the diameter do of the circle containing the axes of the cylinders, so that the balancing force of the block on the valve plate is directed inwardly of the bearing surfaces. For motor operating, to compensate for the tilting force on the block from the high pressure port during starting, a reaction groove S2 is supplied with hydraulic pressure from the high pressure port 14 or 15, depending on the direction of motor rotation, via a throttle 19, 20 which limits the flow to groove S2 during normal running. In Fig. 4 (not shown), four reaction grooves S2 are provided for adjusting the position of the block relative to the valve plate.
