Abstract
1309256 Controlling I.C. engine driven compressors; regulating I. C. engines F W HING 1 July 1970 [29 Jan 1970] 4303/70 Headings F1B and FIN A vehicle engine 1 is coupled by an electromagnetic clutch to the air compressor (not shown), of an air conditioning system, the clutch being caused to disengage when the engine is required to idle or produce an immediate increase in power. The clutch is energized when current flows through a line 3, 2 containing switches r2, s and r1. The switch S is responsive to manifold suction pressure and opens when suction is high. The switches r1, r2 of relays R1, R2 are closed when engine speed is above idling but below a predetermined maximum. Each relay forms part of a frequency responsive electronic circuit having a pulsed input to a resistor 8, the pulses originating from the circuit breaker of the engine's distributer. When the engine idles, transistors T1, T2 and capacitor 5 act to energize the relay R1 which opens contacts r1. A similar circuit 9 energizes the relay R2 to open contact r2 when maximum speed is reached.
