Abstract

1308660 Electro-coating articles CONTINENTAL CAN CO INC 19 May 1970 [2 June 1969] 24102/70 Heading C7B A machine for coating metallic articles comprises a bath for containing coating electrolyte, ,wheel means for supporting articles to be coated adjacent the bath such that the articles may be moved in a circular path about the axis of the wheel, and cam means such that whilst following the circular path the articles are moved into the bath at a first point along the circular path, and are moved out of the bath at a second point along the path. In the form shown a can-electro-coating apparatus comprises an annular coating bath 30, a central wheel 31 which rotates in a clockwise direction and which carries a plurality of can supporting structures 36 see Fig. 2, by means of arms 5, and a ring 34 which supports, by means of brackets 32, a circular cam guide 24. Cans 2 are fed to the can supporting structure 36 via conveyor 1, timing spiral 3 and rotatable feed turret 4, the can being initially supported above the bath as shown in Fig. 2. The arm 5 rigidly supports the rods 27 and 21 which are provided with counter-electrode 25, and with electrodes 11 which contact the can when it is in the lowered position, to effect coating thereof; lowering being effected by cam guide 24 serving to slidably lower the part 40 with respect to the rod 21. At a second point in the path the cam raises the can 2 out of the bath, and the can is fed to turret 6 and discharged at point 17 on to a conveyor.
