Abstract

1364893 Apparatus for depositing a metal layer on a tube LA SOUDURE ELEOTRIQUE AUTOGENE PROCEDES ARCOS SA 16 July 1971 [24 Sept 1970] 51397/73 Divided out of 1364891 Heading B3F Apparatus for depositing a layer of metal on the outer surface of a metal tube 27 comprises means for rotating the tube about its axis and an L-shaped mould 28. In use, a pool of molten metal is formed in the mould by electroslag welding and the tube rotated so that a continuous bead 24 of weld metal is deposited on the tube. At the start of the process. Fig. 10 (not shown) the mould 28 is provided with a detachable part 31 to form a channel-shaped mould. After one complete revolution of the tube 27 the end of the deposited bead contacts the mould part 31 and detaches it from the mould part 28. As the part 31 slides downwards off the part 28 it is replaced by a part 32 which constitutes an extension of the arm of the L- shaped mould and contacts the surface of the bead 24 to prevent runout of the molten metal. All the mould parts are water-cooled.
