Abstract

1,234,701. Coating apparatus. FARMER MOLD & MACHINE WORKS, Inc. 8 July, 1969, No. 34304/69. Heading B2L. [Also in Division B3] In a machine for fabricating storage battery elements, a fluxing station comprises lug cleaning brushes 53 mounted on arms 58 pivoted to the machine, a flux holding tray 45 movable towards and away from a carrier holding the battery elements 12, and means for effecting movement of the brushes in synchronization with movement of the tray. The lugs 22 of the battery elements 12 are cleaned by rotating the brushes 53 after which the flux tray 45 is raised by a pneumatic cylinder 49. This causes the arms 58 to move away from the vertical as a result of rollers 63 on arms 62 bearing on the cam surfaces 51, and allows the lugs 22 to abut sponges 46 in the tray 45 and thus become coated with a fluxing solution 44. After a given time, the flux tray is lowered and the battery elements moved on to a casting station. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,005,313.
