Abstract

1377107 Coating in fluidized bed AEGELOTHERM GmbH 19 Sept 1972 [30 Sept 1971] 43409/72 Heading C7F A workpiece is coated by immersion in a gasfluidized bed of a coating metal, regions of the workpiece to be coated being inductively heated. The fluidizing gas is preferably inert, e.g. a noble gas such as Ar, and the coated region of the workpiece may be further inductively heated outside the fluidized bed, e.g. in the fluidizing gas current; inductive heating is by traversing of an inductive energy transducer and the coating process may be repeated. In an embodiment Fig. 1 a circular knife 1 is rotated so that its cutting edge 2 dips into bed 7 of coating material fluidized by passage of gas through perforated base 6; heating by inductor 8 causes metal to adhere to edge 2, the coating being further homogenised by heating inductor 9. In another embodiment, a bolt on a carrier which also holds an induction coil adapted to fit outside the fluidized bed vessel and to move vertically with the bolt, is dipped into a bed of coating metal whilst being inductively heated, and then withdrawn, the inductive heating continuing.
