Abstract

A method of plating heated surfaces with Ti comprises reacting Ti Cl 4 with Ti to form Ti Cl 2 which is then decomposed on the surface to deposit Ti . Ti Cl 4 at 70‹ C. from a tank 4 (drawing not shown) mixed with a carrier gas e.g. He, Ar or H from a cylinder (1) is passed over sponge Ti (7) in the lower part (116) of a vacuum vessel (11) heated to 500-950‹C. by a furnace (8). The material to be plated (10) e. g. iron sheet, steel and copper wire and silica, is placed in the upper part (11a) of the vessel (11) and is heated to 450- 1000‹ C. by an induction coil (9).
