Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain stabilized quality and improved work efficiency in the manufacture of a bright and composite zinc electroplated steel plate, by adding carboxylic acid (salt) to a composite zinc plating bath contg. an org. additive to inhibit the formation of a precipitate in the bath.
CONSTITUTION: About 0.01W20g/l carboxylic acid such as tartaric acid or its salt is added to a bright and composite zinc electroplating bath contg. Zn ions as a principal component, ≥1 kind of composite metallic ions selected from Co, Mo, Ni, Fe, Cr, W, V, In, Si and Zr ions, and an org. additive. Since it is considered that the carboxylic acid (salt) reacts preferentially with metallic ions, forming a water soluble complex salt and hindering the reaction of metallic ions with the org. additive, the formation of a precipitate can be almost inhibited. Accordingly, the bath is easily controlled, the work efficiency is improved, and the surface appearance of the plated steel plate and the quality of the plated film are stabilized and enhanced.
