Abstract

1448726 Coating strands by hot-dipping ARMCO STEEL CORP 17 Dec 1973 [20 Dec 1972] 58282/73 Heading C7F A ferrous strand is coated with e.g. zinc, Al or terne by hot-dipping, the coating metal being heated by induced secondary currents from a primary coil 52 in a non-conductive pot. The currents also act to agitate the molten metal. The strand may first pass through a direct-fixed and then a radiant-heated furnace each having reducing atmospheres. The strand may be cooled before entering the bath. The coated strand may be finished by air knives 30. The primary coil may be cooled by coils 53a, 53b. Additional coating metal 62 may be fed directly into the bath. The pot may be mounted on wheels 56.
