Abstract

774,230. Aluminising metals by dipping. WHITFIELD, M. G. Feb. 9, 1955, No- 3803/55. Class 82(2) Strip, &c. and other elongated bodies are coated with aluminium by dipping in a molten bath and passed out through a tube 15 up which a stream of the aluminium is directed by the induction heating means 13a. This breaks up the oxide layer at the exit of the strip and yields an even coating. Fingers projecting inwardly of the periphery of the mouth of tube 15 may be provided to increase the turbulence of the flow. In a modification (not shown) two streams of uprising metal are utilized and directed one each side of the strip. Fingers arranged at an angle to the metal stream may be provided to cause an additional component to the flow, carrying oxide &c. away from the strip. A similar arrangement may be provided at the entry of the strip in the bath.
