Abstract

<PICT:1116221/C6-C7/1> A steel strip is coated with e.g. Zn, Sn or Al by passing it through a galvanizing bath 36 having a zone 44 cooled by passing a liquid, e.g. water, through pipes 46. The strip may be preheated and enter the bath through a chute 38 containing a protective atmosphere. The temperature of the cooled zone may be controlled automatically or manually, and the cooling pipes may be surrounded by a jacket of molten lead.
