Abstract
613,196. Coating with metals. HOLM, O. F. June 14, 1946, No. 18019. Convention date, Nov. 6, 1943. [Class 82(ii)] In apparatus for coating wires, tapes &c. of metals, such as iron or steel with a different metal, e.g. zinc, lead, tin or aluminium from a molten pool in which in order to keep the wires &c. immersed in the bath, the latter is covered between transverse guiding members by a cover having walls projecting down into the bath the guiding members are carried by the cover at its lower forward and rear edges. The cover suspended from a hook 9, has an iron casing 10 lined with heat insulating material 11, the lower edges being formed by heat resistant stones 12 which project into the bath. The forward and rear under edges of the cover are provided with a row of formed stones 13 which bear against a flange in the casing 10 on the part 12 and are provided with rounded ends around which the wires &c. 8 pass. These stones 13 may be formed so that they fit into each other and may be threaded in rows on rods 14, 15. The bath is heated by electric elements 19 embedded in the under surfaces of stones 18 supported by stones 17 from beams 16. A screen 21 suspended from bolts 22 protects the cover if the wires are broken or from zinc splashing from the bath.
