Abstract
<PICT:1114119/C6-C7/1> A wire, strip or tube of e.g. iron is coated by passing it in a horizontal path through a bath of molten Al or Zn, and then through a die 28 which is floatingly mounted in a holder 24. The inlet die 23 and die 28 may both be made of zirconium silicate. On leaving the die 28 it passes to a gas finishing chamber 60 and the gas issuing from this chamber is directed to the exit die 28, to confine the metal to the die. Any metal passing through the inlet die 23 is returned to the supply trough through a passage 24, to which dry nitrogen is fed, through a pipe 21. Molten metal is fed from the trough to the bath by gas, e.g. nitrogen, pressure.
