Abstract
1308226 Consuming obnoxious elements in smoke R F DE CASTRO-ENTERPRISES Inc 4 Aug 1970 37690/70 Headmg F4B. Deleterious products in the chimney 1 of a coal burning plant, e.g. a power station are consumed by injecting an aqueous solution of methyl or ethyl alcohol through nozzle 6 and a solution of hydrogen peroxide through nozzle 8, creating a fine mist of the same by pressurized air or oxygen from nozzle 15 and igniting the resultant mixture by-a burner flame 25. In a modification (Fig. 2), gases from a nitric acid plant are burnt at the first of a stack standing on a hollow housing from which an atomizing nozzle for fuel and air extends. upwardly into said stack, the mixture being ignited by electrodes disposed just above said nozzle. The effluent gases are sampled before and at the top of the stack, and the housing shelters an alcohol fuel pump and an air pump.
