Abstract
1308212 Decarburising steel ALLEGHENY LUDLUM INDUSTRIES Inc 28 Aug 1970 [29 Aug 1969] 41491/70 Heading C7D Oxygen is blown into the converter and the evolved gases collected cleaned and recirculated by adding them to the oxygen stream, preferably in a gas: oxygen ratio of at least 1 : 4, the ratio changing according to the rate of carbon removal. Prior to recirculation the gas may be treated to reduce CO 2 to CO. When treating carbon steel recirculation may commence when the iron oxide content of the slag reaches 10%, while for stainless steel argon may be additionally introduced with the oxygen.
