Abstract

1307392 Treating pitch KUREHA KAGAKU KOGYO KK 13 Feb 1970 [13 Feb 1969] 7030/70 Heading C5E [Also in Division C1] Shaped articles of pitch, e.g. films or fibres, are rendered more durable for subsequent carbonization by being heat-treated at a temperature below the softening temperature of the article in an atmosphere of NO 2 , N 2 O 4 , SO 3 or a halogen, optionally with one or more non-reducing gases, e.g. N 2 , O 2 , air, A, or CO 2 . Temperatures range from 0‹ to 350‹ C. and times from 5 minutes to 5 hours. NO may be the treating gas if air is present.
