Abstract

1307322 Drop hammers H WATANABE and S GENMA 8 June 1971 [22 Sept 1970] 19535/71 Heading B3H An electric motor hammer comprises one or two electric motors 13, 13<SP>1</SP> mounted in a frame 11, 12 to drive a pair of rollers 17 which can be brought into engagement with a guide-rod 14 so that the frame containing the motor or motors can be raised up the guide-rod and allowed to fall under gravity when the rollers are retracted. The rollers are mounted on shafts 24 journalled in elongated slots (26), Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), in side-plates 25. The shafts are biased away from the guide-rod 14 by springs 33 and moved against the biasing by a pair of plates (27), (28), Fig. 7 (not shown), on the shafts at each end of the rollers. The plates (27), (28), have aligned openings (29) engaged by a rectangular bar (31) on the end of a common lever 32. The lever 32 is biased upwards by the springs 33 and when moved downwards, Fig. 5 (not shown), moves the driven rollers 24 on to the rod. The lever 32 is moved downwards by an adjustable abutment plate 138, Fig. 12, on the guide-rod to cause the rollers to retract at the end of the upstroke. The hammer is used for pile driving. Alternatively changeover electromagnetic switches may be provided in place of the control lever and actuated by a stop-plate on the guide-rod.
