Abstract

1306582 Taking up slack in flexible elements INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS 11 Nov 1970 [19 Nov 1969] 53676/70 Heading B8B A device for storing and handling a flexible discharge pipe on a tanker vessel, in which one end 5 of the pipe is secured to the vessel storage tank and the other end extends from the vessel through a hawse 6, comprises a reversing idler pulley 1 around which the pipe is looped and which is movable along a rail 4 under the control of a cable 2 of a winch 3, to store and to eliminate slack in the pipe. The run of pipe extending from the pulley 1 to the hawse 6 is supported on rollers 7. In another embodiment, the pipe is looped over a plurality of slidable pulleys whereby a longer length of pipe can be accommodated in the vessel, each pulley being movable by a separate control cable, or all the pulleys being mounted on a single movable trolley.
