1305637 Feeding spoons on to endless conveyers MISSILES S A 27 May 1970 [30 May 1969] 25444/70 Headings B8A and B8S [Also in Division B3] An apparatus for polishing an article 1 comprises means 3 for carrying the article along a predetermined path to means 4, 4a for polishing the article, the polishing means being movable in a direction generally laterally of the path, the movement corresponding to the shape of the article to be polished. A plurality of articles, such as spoons, are fed one at a time from a housing 2 to the means 3 consisting of a chain and are gripped thereon as they are conveyed between pairs of brushing or polishing rollers 4, 4a which are movable laterally and vertically of the path of the articles under the control of a profile jig, the finished articles being discharged on to a conveyer 7. The housing 2 has end walls formed with grooves 10, 11, Fig. 5, for receiving the ends of a stack of spoons which rest on a shoulder (12, Fig. 4, not shown) and stops 13 and at one end abut a stop means 20. A thrust member 19 and the stop means 20 are moved in unison by a pneumatically operated device 15 so that the lowermost spoon is free of the shoulder 12 and stops 13, the remaining spoons being held against movement by members 14, and is received between clamping lugs 32, Fig. 6, or in an alternative arrangement, beneath clamping arms 33, on links 30 of the chain 3 adjacent a sprocket 25 so that, when the plates are in alignment between the sprockets 25, the spoons are gripped by the lugs or arms. Two housings 2 may be provided so that each pair of lugs grips two spoons which are thus carried between the brushing or polishing rollers 4, 4a which are moved laterally of the direction of movement of the spoons and vertically by the profile jigs to brush and polish the spoons. At the discharge end of the apparatus, the spoons are released by the lugs or arms and received between co-operating parts of belts 40, 41, Fig. 7, and carried to the discharge conveyer 7.
