Abstract

1305612 Fuel injection systems JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 5 Nov 1971 [16 Nov 1970] 53489/70 Heading G1N In an I. C. engine intermittent fuel injection system having at least one electromagnetic injection valve energized by engine triggered pulses having a duration dependant upon at least one operating variable, means including an electrical winding and a magnetic member, one of which is connected to the engine throttle control, are provided for generating an electrical signal which when acceleration is required, initiates additional valve energizing pulses to increase the amount of fuel supplied by the injection valve. As shown, two groups of injection valves 10 are provided with respective pulse generators 12 which are triggered by a device 18 and supplied with variable D. C. voltages V1, V2 to control the pulse durations. The winding and magnetic member device, 28, which may be linear is partcircular, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown). supplies its electrical output signal to an amplifier 30 whose output depends upon rate and/or amount of throttle movement, dependent upon the size of capacitor C1 in relation to resistor R2. The amplifier output is applied to four pulse generators 32 having different senitivities so that the number operated depends upon the throttle movement. The outputs of these generators 32 are applied to trigger the injection valves in addition to the pulse generators 12 thereby supplying extra fuel. The amplifier output is also applied to modify the voltage V2 to thereby increase the duration of the pulses of generators 12. The voltage V2 is also applied to the generators 32 to thereby control the duration; of their pulses.
