Abstract
1286851 Fuel injection systems PETROL INJECTION Ltd and H E JACKSON 24 June 1970 [27 June 1969 17 Sept 1969] 32531/69 and 45806/69 Heading G1N [Also in Division F1] In an I. C. engine fuel injection control system, opening pulses are applied from a unit 200 to the injectors 83 at an unvarying constant frequency, the duration of the pulses being controlled by the position of an air valve 4, the pressure of the fuel at the injectors also being controlled by the position of valve 4. In one embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the control unit 200 is an astable multivibrator whose pulse duration is determined by a potentiometer 205 as shown in Fig. 1. In an alternative, Figs.4-8 (not shown), the unit 200 is constituted by a sawtooth generator which produces constant frequency pulses and a signal generator producing a D. C. signal whose magnitude is controlled by the position of valve 4, e.g. by varying an inductance, the sawtooth waveform and the D.C. signal being compared to produce an injector opening signal when the sawtooth waveform exceeds the D.C. signal. As shown, the valve 4 is positioned by detecting the pressure between the valves 1 and 4, via conduit 29, to maintain the depression between 1 and 4 constant by positioning valve 4 via a unit 102 and a piston 8A. The position of valve 4 also controls the pressure of the fuel via conduit 43 and control unit 100 which controls an excess fuel control valve 112, 113. Units 100 and 102 are as described in Specification number 1254181. A valve 101A in line 43 may provide fuel enrichment during starting by controlling valves 66A, 66B.
