Abstract

1,272,595. Fuel injection systems. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Sept. 11, 1969 [Sept. 12, 1968], No.43503/68. Heading G1N. In an I.C. engine fuel injection control system one or more injection valve opening pulses are triggered, when acceleration is required, in addition to the main valve opening pulses. As shown, two pulse generators 12, e.g. as described in Specification 1,107,989 are connected to respective groups of valves 11 and produce main opening pulses having a duration dependent upon the induction manifold pressure, engine speed, water temperature and ambient temperature and triggered by a device 13 in synchronism with the engine speed, a device 17, e.g. a switch which closes at a predetermined rate of increase in induction pressure, Fig. 2 (not shown), or a switch closed at a predetermined rate of throttle pedal movement, Fig. 3 (not shown), triggering both the generators 12 when acceleration is required. In an alternative, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), the induction pressure sensor (114a), in addition to being connected to a control circuit (114) for the generators (112), is also connected to a number of further pulse generators (164) which are successively triggered as the induction pressure increases, when the throttle is opened, to produce a number of additional pulses to produce the required acceleration. The induction manifold pressure sensor (114a) is also connected to the water temperature sensor control circuit (116) whose output, in addition to being connected to the pulse generators (112), is also connected to the further generators (164) so that the duration of the additional pulses is dependent upon the water temperature. The further generators (164) are blocked during starting and idling. Specifications 1,038,541 and 1,064,679 are also referred to.
