Abstract
1,088,502. Electric couplings; inductive-drag switches. ASSOCIATED ENGINEERING Ltd. Jan. 15, 1965 [Jan. 17, 1964], No. 2168/64. Headings H2A and H2B. [Also in Division G1] The movable arm 4 of a rotary potentiometer is driven from an internal-combustion engine through an induction or eddy current coupling including a magnet 8, drag cup 9 and flux return path 11. The potentiometer may consist of separate resistance portions connected between a series of fixed contacts over which the arm moves against the action of a spring, so that the position of the arm depends on the speed of rotation of shaft 7. Voltages are injected at various points along the resistor chain to modify the characteristic of the device.
