Abstract
1347975 Ignition systems; speed limiting JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 16 June 1971 [27 June 1970] 31287/70 Heading F1B A speed limiting system for an I.C. engine with an ignition coil having primary and secondary windings 54, 57 and a contact breaker 55 comprises a transistor 64 which is turned on when contact breaker 55 opens and a thyristor 89 to which gate current starts to flow a predetermined interval after transistor 64 is turned on. The gate current flows for a predetermined period and the transistor 64 is held on until said gate current starts. The thyristor 89 prevents a further spark if the contact breaker opens while the thyristor is gated, and the predetermined interval is such that the engine is not capable of overspeeding sufficiently to open the contact breaker again during it. The intervals are determined by the times taken for capacitors 72, 77 and 83 to charge, determined by the values of resistors 75, 81 and 86 respectively. These resistors may be variable.
