Abstract

1392802 Ignition systems; regulating A N TRASS 14 April 1972 [11 Feb 1971] 4460/71 Heading F1B The invention relates to a transistor ignition system for an internal-combustion engine of the kind in which the timing of pulses delivered to an ignition coil is controlled by means of a disc (not shown) rotatable between a light source and a photo-electric device Q1, the photo-electric device being connected to the ignition coil through a transistorized amplifier circuit Q 2 , Q 3 . According to the invention the transistorized amplifier circuit includes circuit means adapted and arranged to produce an oscillatory voltage at least under starting and low speed conditions whereby a shower of sparks is produced at each sparking plug on ignition. The ignition timing may be varied centrifugally and the dwell of the system may be increased with increasing speed. A tachometer or an electric fuel injection system may be operated from the ignition system. The system may be readily incorporated in existing vehicles.
