Abstract

1305532 Printing apparatus INC C OLIVETTI & C SpA 24 May 1971 [22 May 1970] 16535/71 Heading B6C A copying apparatus comprises a transport drum 12 upon which a preliminary sheet of electrophotographic paper (ZnO paper) may be held and imaged from an original document D, a developing station 18 which applies toner powder to the electrostatic image, means for feeding a sheet of master material (e.g. polystyrene) into contact with the imaged preliminary sheet, means 22 for heating the superimposed sheets to cause transfer of toner image portions of the preliminary sheet to the master material, a printing drum 24 for peeling the master from the preliminary sheet, means 30, 32 for inking the master held on the printing drum and means for feeding multiple copy sheets between drums 12 and 24 to be printed from the inked master. The electrophotographic paper and the master material are fed as required from rolls 10 and 20 and cut to length, the electrophotographic paper being charged as it approaches the drum 12. Cam operated grippers are provided on the drums 12 and 24, those on the drum 12 being operable at positions for gripping the electrophotographic paper or the copy paper. The heating means 22 may be infra-red and the master material may be transparent such that the radiant heat is absorbed by the toner image on the preliminary sheet. The final printing stage may be lithographic with oil being fed from container 30 and a water based ink from container 32. When the preliminary copy has transferred its image to the master material it is discharged into bin 28. Copy paper is fed from hopper 34 and printed copies are discharged into bin 42.
